An Evaluation of the Environmental Impact Assessment Process in Iraq

Environmental impact assessment (EIA) is becoming more prevalent. However, compared to many jurisdictions in developed countries, the Middle East including Iraq, have been relatively late introducing and developing their environmental systems. The Iraqi Protection Improvement of Environment Law 2009 improved EIA procedure established 1997. Nonetheless, current technique has severe drawbacks. purpose this study assess Iraq's present system. evaluation was carried out using a simple conceptual model created meet goal. performance process Iraq evaluated, list recommendations for further enhancing system by key interviews. findings show that fulfills seven fourteen criteria applied study's evaluation, partially meets four, fails satisfy three.
